Jan teaches VCE English at Firbank Grammar School. She has returned to the classroom after spending 2016 working as the Education Officer at the VATE, the Victorian Association for the Teaching of English. One of her key roles there was educating teachers about the new VCE English Study Design. Jan has extensive experience as an English examination setter, auditor, course reviewer and text selector, as well as assessing English since 1989 to the present. She also has worked as a VCAA reviewer and curriculum writer and presented some of the implementation briefings for VCAA on the new VCE English and Literature courses. Jan has written student revision guides for Year 12 English texts, including ‘Burial Rites’, ’Stasiland’ and 'The Complete Maus' and also has reviewed and edited VCE English textbooks for several publishers. She is an avid reader and passionate about the teaching of English and Literature having previously lectured for Access Education in both these subjects.
